Boldly living out who God created me to be
I know God’s love transforms the loneliest of hearts. I’ve seen it firsthand in my life many times. Remembering that truth is handy, especially when I’m in a mental funk. Because I yearn to experience love every time I wake up in the morning. A love that remains and fuels, regardless of what the day may bring.
Some days life gets in the way.
When I’m feeling low, the days and hours blur together. Often, I ask myself how I ended up in this place. I ponder the “what if” and “if only” questions in my head, only to end up confused and defeated. Then, I remind myself of all the positive changes in my life, due to God’s perfect timing and unconditional love.
Past pain, insecurity, and doubt still reside in my brain. Yet when I have moments of weakness, I know that my emotional and physical health is a steady work in progress. Old patterns creep up when I least expect them, but they don’t have to brew in my soul continually.
The more I cultivate a relationship with God and pray in the present moment, the more I feel his peace.
This also helps me to understand the way God loves us. It’s like no other love we can experience. God’s love is eternal, gracious, and protective. It cultivates joy within, improving our mental health.
The truth is, in my mid-thirties I’m just now confidently living out who God created me to be. Within God’s guidance, grace, and pure love, I know my true worth. Beneath the bouts of anxiety and depression, I know who I am and who I’m serving. This newfound assurance comes from a love only He can provide.
Through the ups and downs, my identity is rooted in Christ, which is everlasting. And because the Holy Spirit resides in me, I am unafraid to pour His love onto others. He eases my worries anytime I feel timid.
So, when you're struggling, breathe through the anxiety and lean on the Holy Spirit for strength. The outside noise and internal battles are easier to manage when you're soaking in God’s faithful love.
Scripture for meditation
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7, NIV)
